Vale – Arthur Wilson

With great sadness I must advise the passing of long-time member Arthur Wilson.
As many people know, as well as being a keen bowler and the best of company, Arthur was a great supporter of the Fitzroy Football Club, with his interest and enthusiasm spanning many years from the time when Fitzroy were part of the VFL/AFL up to modern times when Arthur was one of the foundation stones for the Southern Supporters of the Lions. Arthur is a member of Brisbane Lions “Hall of Fame”.
For those interested in this aspect of Arthur’s life, you can catch up with some history by taking a look on the Brisbane Lions web-site

The following is from Arthur’s Memorial Service held on Friday 24th November at Marvel Stadium in a room near the Brisbane Lions Historical Society area.

Arthur was a long serving member at Montmorency Bowling Club and passed away recently aged 90
He was a passionate Fitzroy follower.
Ian Crawford, a committee member at BLHS conducted the service, where he ran through Arthur’s life right from he was a child, his father took him to all Fitzroy home games.
As a young boy he was made the mascot for the 1944 Premiership year. He went on to serve in various administrative positions within the club.
After Ian finished Arthur’s life history, several past players spoke very passionately about Arthur, namely John Murphy, Matt Rendell, Scott Clayton, Michael Conlan and Robert Walls.
Officials from Brisbane sent messages of condolences.
Chris Fagan (the present coach) mentioned that after his appointment, Arthur sent him the coaching notes that Len Smith used in the 1950’s.
This brought a laugh from the audience of at least 400 people.
When he retired, he joined the Monty bowling club in November 2002 and played 268 weekend pennant games and 108 mid week games.
Rest In Peace Arthur
