RSL Edinburgh Shield 2019

RSL Edinburgh Shield 2019
This year 20 bowlers and two spouses made the journey to the River Country Inn Moama to play in the RSL Edinburgh Shield at the Rich River Club.
The Lawrie Hubbard Flagon of Port also made the journey as it has not missed one yet.
An excellent BBQ was held on the Friday night in a great BBQ area, despite Daisy Eames letting his passengers out far too early resulting in Sleepy Wills having a nap at 5:30 pm.
The next morning everyone arrived at the Rich River Club early to attend ‘Stand To’, however where was our Manager the ever reliable Duncan Duke who was seen to leave early. Unfortunately he was informed the Club was just up the road he didn’t bother to find out which road and incorrectly took the Deniliquin Road. He did arrive in time for ‘Stand To’ and Graham Crapper had done the manager’s duties
Day 1 there were three closely contested games and we accounted for Box Hill, Hampton and Sunshine. Dinner was held at the Rich River Country Club and for once everyone was couth.
Day 2 the two unbeaten sides Montmorency and Warrnambool played a draw if both won their last game it would be decided on shots up. Warrnambool had a stronger side in Sunshine to beat and Montmorency-Eltham were up against Phillip Island who had only one won game.
Both Warrnambool and Montmorency lost giving Sunshine the section win. Once again we beat the winners of the Section but went down against another side.
Dinner that night was at the Moama Bowling Club where Peter ‘The Baptist’ Watson unfortunately baptised Gary Wills with a schooner of beer.
A great weekend and thanks to Montmorency-Eltham RSL Sub-Branch for their generous sponsorship.
Our best players were Skip Peter Watson 3 wins and plus 21 shots,
Third Glenda Swan 2 wins and plus 14 shots,
second Rod Ward 3 wins and plus 23 shots and
Lead Gary Wills 3 wins and plus 17 shots

Duncan Duke
